Okay, this just makes me feel all giddy and wonderful inside.

This is what I want my wedding to be like.

DJ’s and a Menu

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

So, a few weeks ago, Chet and I made the trek out to College Station/Huntsville to set up a menu and pick out a DJ.

First stop was the DJ: We’ve decided to go with LiveWire Productions. And they are basically awesome. First off, the owner met with us when he had other events going on that day. That showed Chet and I that they took an interest in their clients, which was spectacular since the other DJs we spoke with wouldn’t really get back in touch with us. Double ugh.

Wade, the owner, sat with us for an hour weaving this beautiful pattern of all the things that they could provide for us. Unfortunately, we can’t afford their most premium package, but we can defintely go with their “Romance Package”, and we sure did. This provides music for 4 hours along with a professional DJ, lighting etc. We both agree that music is a huge thing at a party like this, and are more than willing to pay more than what we had expected. In total, with mileage, the DJ will be about $1100.

Our next meeting was with Aramark. You remember our issue with getting a meeting, correct? Well, we had a few more issues, however we did get a meeting with an assistant manager and went for it. So, we choose our menu (Champagne Chicken, London Broil, Roasted New Potatoes, Green Beans Almondine, Rolls, Iced Tea and Water service — yum yum yum!!) We talked about drink tickets, setting up the building, all of that stuff that we needed to.

After a few kinks with the bill, we got everything squared away and now have catering done. We’ll be spending about $2,500 on food and drinks. Not too shabby, I believe.

So, $3,600 will be going towards the food, drinks, and music. Way more than we had planned, but is still worth it in the end.

Hey Kids

I’m not going to be hanging out here…

… for 10 days.

See, I’m going to El Salvador. I know, right?! I’m going to be working in an orphanage down there for the next week and a half, and I am so excited about it. However, my friends, I will not be having internet access, so that means no wedding planning!!!!! (That was a little excited, huh?)

Anyhow, Chet and I are going to use this time to reconnect — through letter writing. We are going to (maybe) relish in this time apart to think about how much we love eachother, and want this marriage to take place, more so than any wedding.

And it’s going to be amazing.

So… see you later, alligator!

In Indiana

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Look at these lovelies my grandmother gave to my aunt to give to me for my wedding day:

Something blue neckalce and handkerchief

Reads: “Something Blue” Necklace worn by Kit, Jane, and Carol Staley. Given to their mother by her grandmother

Cake Toppers

Reads: Cake figurine used by Kit, Jan and Carol Staley and on the wedding cake of their parents.

I’m not 100% sure what this is for… any ideas?

hearts and bells

How cool are these things? These were used by my two aunts, my mom, and my cousin, Kari as well. Aren’t these just awesome?

I’m really excited to have these. It’s a great way to bring my grandmother, who passed away last December, into our wedding. It’s a bonus that Chet likes them too.

What I Want

Monday, May 18th, 2009

On Saturday… I graduated.

I am now an official alumna of Sam Houston State University. I’m going to miss it.

So, of course with graduating, we had parties all week long that we went too. And from each of these events, I took something away that I want for our shin-dig.

At all of these places, we realized how much we wanted to just relax. At these parties, it was achieved (and brilliantly, might I add!).  At the Stardust Room it was cheap drinks and good friends to laugh with. At Doug’s graduation party, it was a picnic with his family and Chet’s family. Lots of wonderful DIY stuff that made it special. At mine, it was casual and lovely.

My parents (and Aunt and Charlotte) rented a lakehouse and decorated it in a beautiful way. When we walked in, there were candles and family waiting to surprise me.

And all of these atmospheres are what we want to accomplish… somehow.

Don’t know how, but we will.

For now, I am in Indiana with Jan, and we are working on my dress over the next two weeks. Yup, she is creating my wedding dress. I am just avoiding being stuck by pins and making her laugh so much she’s losing her voice. It’ll be a great vacation.
